This Sunday’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards won’t just be shown on the popular MTV channel via cable and satellite. The awards show will also feature live streaming online content, as well as social media interaction for Sunday’s big event. This includes the use of Twitter to vote on at least one of the major categories and to track trending moments. Not only that, but MTV will offer special backstage cameras to show live stream movie awards footage!
The MTV Movie Awards are scheduled for a 9PM EST start on MTV through cable and satellite channels globally. However, starting at 7PM EST/6PM CT, they will launch an All Access Live experience for viewers. This will include live stream video cameras set up around the venue, allowing fans to watch all of the backstage action! MTV will also be streaming the Red Carpet set production and celebrity arrivals on Sunday night. This means fans will have live stream coverage of the event in addition to what they are seeing on TV for the show!
Also, MTV is employing its 2012 Twitter Tracker, which has been used during past editions of the Movie Awards or MTV Music Video Awards. This tracks the top trending stars, movies, and other tweets related to the show. It’s been rumored that this year’s Twitter Tracker will capture “trending moments” from the live show, and allow viewers to tweet these photos or videos on their Twitter, or post to other social media. So this makes for a truly interactive live online experience!
As of right now the 2012 Twitter Tracker is also collecting votes by tweet for the “Best Hero” category. As of our report, Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen from “Hunger Games” were leading by a large margin over Captain America, Thor and Jenko from “21 Jump Street.”
MTV begins the Movie Awards at 8PM EST with a red carpet special and pre-show, including a special “Punk’d” featuring the return of original host Ashton Kucher. After all the big stars have arrived it’ll be time for the awards show. The MTV Movie Awards show will begin on MTV at 9PM EST, so grab your popcorn and remote control, along with your laptop or mobile device to follow all the entertainment Sunday night!
